As Universities begin adopting Design/Build delivery models they are exploring a set of basic procurement questions: What delivery model should we use? How will we select our team? What's the ideal schedule for this project? Do the benefits of speed outweigh the complexities of moving quickly in the University setting? Do programming, concept, design and CDs really have to be sequential? How fast is too fast?

Learning Objectives:

  • Scenario planning with your program – learn how to quickly illustrate options, associated project costs and the pros and cons of each for your client.
  • Pull planning with the team/ creating a work plan with decisions points
  • How to create a decision schedule and get the right people involved at the right time

Performance requirements for design-build RFPs are critical for successful DB project outcomes. By utilizing LEAN process mapping prior to issuing our RFP, we were able to provide more valuable information to the team that lead to a very successful project. We will present our LEAN mapping process as well as overall project lessons learned. Owners need better strategies to ensure that the information they offer to the Design-Build team is relevant and impactful.

Learning Objectives:

  • The benefits of utilizing LEAN Process Mapping for new Design-Build projects.
  • How to conduct a Lean Process Mapping Workshop.
  • How to take the information gathered and include it in an Design-Build RFP.
  • Project lessons learned to apply to future Design-Build projects.
