This session will facilitate a detailed discussion on design risk in transportation design-build project delivery. While the conference program will include separate sessions to address risk management, contract best practices and methods of applying best practices to limit liability and decrease risk, the Practitioner’s Forum session is intended specifically to generate discussion on when best practices have failed. The DBIA Transportation Markets Committee has assembled a panel of highly experienced DB experts who represent both the Errors and Omissions Insurance industry and experts in the Owner Procurement process.

PDX PACR Project - Progressive Design-Build Procurement Decision and Snapshot

This session will provide insight on how the Port of Portland identified, evaluated, and procured a Progressive Design-Build (PDB) delivery for the PDX PACR project. In addition, this session will provide a case study of lessons learned on the journey to date (Year 1 of 3). This PDB model is an integrated and collaborative approach that is aiming to reduce time and cost over traditional models, while maximizing safety and interim operations.

Delivering Design-Build in California - Local Agencies Partnering with Caltrans

Caltrans and local agencies have been collaborating in new ways to deliver design-build projects in California. With local agencies committing significant project funding and leading project delivery, traditional agency roles are being adapted to create project-focused design-build delivery oversight teams. This presentation will explore how OCTA and SBCTA – two transportation authorities in southern California – have partnered with Caltrans and used design-build delivery to widen and implement new tolling systems on existing interstate highways.

San Francisco International Airport has embraced a highly collaborative form of design-build–one without bridging documents to guide the design-builder–as its delivery method of choice for its $10 billion capital program. With several projects under contract at SFO, Webcor has developed several innovative strategies to achieve success within this demanding and highly collaborative design-build framework which requires the design-builder to orchestrate the programming, as well as all subsequent project delivery phases.
