The UCI Design-build process is the product of 23 Years of continual development that encompasses 90 projects and $1.75 Billion of construction value. This presentation will demonstrate how UC Irvine has implemented a competitive design-build process that addresses the challenges of cost-to-compete and design excellence through a rigorous, equitable selection process. The UCI Program is strategically calibrated to emphasize design quality and optimize long-term value to the University.

Learning Objectives:

  • Establish a state-of-the-art program for competitive design-build project delivery.
  • Organize campus working groups to ensure objectivity in assessing value of design-build proposals.
  • Organize a process of proprietary meetings for design-build team to engage campus representatives for critical input during the course of the competition effort.
  • Educate institutional leadership on the fundamental requirements to conduct equitable design-build competitions that produce high quality projects.
