TH12 - Saving Money Using Progressive Design-Build at Boynton Beach’s East Water Treatment Plant

Faced with anticipated redevelopment and a limited water supply source, the City implemented a state-of-the-art MIEX pretreatment system and increased the WTP’s capacity to 24 mgd. The City utilized the Progressive Design-Build delivery method to identify cost savings throughout the project and successfully integrate design optimization methods and compelling community highlights. Key team members will focus on risk sharing through collaboration to cut cost and enhance quality.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss how the benefits of the Progressive Design-Build delivery can maximize value while saving money and lead to increased collaboration on projects.
  • Identify methodologies for risk sharing that can be directly applied to more effectively implement and manage other projects utilizing the progressive Design-Build delivery method.
  • Create a road map for successfully structuring a project team focused on collaboration an open philosophy to support cutting costs, enhancing quality, and incorporating meaningful stakeholder engagement.
  • Implement proactive progressive Design-Build strategies, including the risk register approach, to maximize value to the owner, allow for meaningful collaborative participation by all members of the Design-Build team and lead to a highly successful project.
